5 May 2008: In collaboration with the Parliament of Zambia, the ICT, Science and technology Division (ISTD) and ECA Sub-regional Office of Southern Africa, facilitated a 2-day MPs workshop on “The role of Parliament in promoting an inclusive Information Society in the Zambia” from 19-20 April 2008. Gender and e-Government worshop opens today21 March 2008: A one-day workshop on Gender and E-government was opened today, 21 March 2008 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Over forty participants are in attendance at the workshop drawn from Ministries of Information and Communication Technologies, National Gender Machineries and representatives of Regional Economic Communities. Participants call for a scaling up of policy implementation activities
25 October 2007: Over forty African policymakers and other stakeholders reached consensus on the need to move from policy development to implementation as most countries had developed policies which remained unimplemented for various reasons. The participants urged the ECA and its partners to continue supporting this process to ensure that benefits from the Information Society are realized. [more]

2007 Anglophone countries call on each other to share their experiences in addressing the issue of gender mainstreaming in ICT strategies
Participants of the workshop on Gender and e-Government9 May 2007: A workshop on Gender and e-Government, currently underway in Maputo, Mozambique for Anglophone countries (28-30 May 2007), is the second for Africa. Over thirty participants from eighteen Anlophone countries composed of ICT focal points and representatives of gender machineries are in attendance. The first workshop was held in Tunisia in June 2006 for Francophone countries. [more]

Ethiopian SMEs receive orders via e-mail despite the non-existence of an online payment system28 Feb 2007: A survey conducted on Addis based SME exporters as part of the country study on the role of ICTs in trade and economic growth in Ethiopia revealed that approximately 45% receive their orders through e-mail, however, payments cannot be done online, says Dr. Assefa Admassie, an economist and a member of the study team. ECA, ECOWAS and UEMOA to chart a legal framework for ICT development in West Africa
16 Jan 2007: A workshop organized last month in Ouagadougou by ECA's sub regional Office in West Africa (SRO-WA) and ISTD gathered ICT experts, lawyers, trade specialists and economists on the most effective legal framework for ICT development in the region. Discussions focused on how to put in place an enabling legal environment for e-commerce and for an enhanced cyber crime control. [more]

Africa participates in the Canadian Government Technology Exhibition and Conference for the second year
30 Oct 2006:  The Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), in collaboration with the Canadian ePolicy Resource Centre (CePRC) and under the Global ePolicy Resource Network (ePol-NET), facilitated the participation of over 54 e-Government and ICT Policy makers from 25 African countries in the Canadian Government Technology Exhibition and Conference Week (GTEC) 2006.
