About

Under the framework of the Global ePolicy Resource Network (ePOl-NET) the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and the Canadian ePolicy Resource Centre (CePRC) have developed an Action Plan framework for Gender and e-Government, which main objective is to facilitate the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) as tools for empowering and benefiting women and men, for full inclusion in e-government programming and service delivery.

The workshop, which will be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on the 21 March 2008, falls under the African Information Society Initiative Framework (AISI), led by the ECA one of whose aim is to integrate the gender dimension in the formulation and implementation of the national and sectoral e-strategies for development. The principal objective of the meeting is to enrich the Action Plan framework for Gender and e-Government with inputs from gender and ICT experts from member States and ensure that it addresses the specific needs of African women and men.

This workshop will also be a culmination of the series of workshops held in Tunis, Tunisia and Maputo, Mozambique on "Gender and e-Government" in June 2006 and March 2007, respectively.

In view of the pivotal role that your institution is playing in promoting gender and ICTs in particular and an inclusive Information society in Africa in general, you are cordially invited to participate in the workshop or nominate an expert from your organization to participate.

We look forward to receiving your confirmation before 1 March 2008, so that we can make necessary arrangements. Please complete the attached registration form and return it by e-mail to Ms. Elizabeth Getachew at egetachew@uneca.org and cc: to gdessalegn@uneca.org or fax at: 251 11 5510512.
